{"id":1683,"date":"2017-12-20T14:02:11","date_gmt":"2017-12-20T03:02:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dalgarnoinstitute.org.au\/wp_site\/aussie-drinkers-face-paying-more-for-booze-under-radical-health-plan\/"},"modified":"2017-12-20T14:02:11","modified_gmt":"2017-12-20T03:02:11","slug":"aussie-drinkers-face-paying-more-for-booze-under-radical-health-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dalgarnoinstitute.org.au\/wp_site\/aussie-drinkers-face-paying-more-for-booze-under-radical-health-plan\/","title":{"rendered":"Aussie drinkers face paying more for booze under radical health plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Tom Minear and James&nbsp;Campbell, Herald Sun &#8211; December 19, 2017&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>DRINKERS<\/strong> would face significant price increases for beer and wine under a proposal to cut Australians\u2019 alcohol \u00adconsumption.<\/p>\n<p>Under the draft plan, \u00adreleased by federal and state ministers, the cost of all \u00adalcoholic drinks would not be allowed to fall below a set level.<\/p>\n<p>The draft national alcohol strategy, quietly released last month, also calls for tough \u00adrestrictions on alcohol advertising during sport, and laws to stop bottle shops providing two-for-one offers and bulk-buy booze discounts.<\/p>\n<p>Other proposals include:<\/p>\n<p><strong>NEW<\/strong>&nbsp;restrictions on the serving of drinks after a certain time, and plastic glassware to be used in \u201chigh-risk venues\u201d;<\/p>\n<p><strong>MANDATORY<\/strong>&nbsp;sobriety conditions on repeat offenders, and linked ID scanners to \u00adprevent entry to venues;<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNDERCOVER<\/strong>&nbsp;checks to ensure bottle shops and venues do not serve those under age;<\/p>\n<p><strong>ASKING<\/strong>&nbsp;alcohol companies to put \u201creadable, impactful health-related warning labels\u201d on their products.
