The global legal market has been estimated at $9.5 billion for&nbsp;<a style=\"background-color: inherit; font-family: inherit; font-size: 1rem;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/thomaspellechia\/2018\/06\/26\/in-2017-beyond-u-s-enjoys-the-highest-legal-cannabis-market-share-worldwide\/#719b36a92d20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2017<\/a>, with investor testimonials&nbsp;<a style=\"background-color: inherit; font-family: inherit; font-size: 1rem;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fool.com\/investing\/2018\/10\/17\/just-how-big-will-the-marijuana-market-really-be.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">projecting<\/a>&nbsp;future markets at values between $300 and $500 billion in a few short years.<\/p>\n<p>But not all signs are rosy. The evidence to date\u2014such as the consequences in states like Colorado where legalized regimes have operated long enough to generate reliable data\u2014is that the progress of legalization across the states is less like a victorious procession and more like a nip-and-tuck race between salesmanship and disaster.<\/p>\n<p>Advocates feel the need to proselytize in new states, and do it quickly, in order to keep ahead of the growing damage in already legalized states.
