Despite a Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved CBD prescription drug product for the treatment of some epileptic seizures, a direct-to-consumer market has also emerged, which lacks sufficient regulatory oversight. The National Consumers League (NCL) studied the CBD direct-to-consumer market landscape, including the \u201cresearch as marketing\u201d phenomenon, and compiled its findings into this white paper. With the FDA taking enforcement action against companies making explicit health treatment claims, other entities are turning to partnerships with academia to further investigate CBD\u2019s therapeutic potential.
