One of the single greatest drug-use promoting mechanisms is <strong><a href=\"Co-use%20of%20alcohol%20and%20marijuana%20and%20beliefs%20among%20teens\">permission. <\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;Parents \u2018join in\u2019 the permission paradigm, simply by following the unchallenged notion that\u2026 <strong><em>\u201cif the government made it legal, it can\u2019t be all bad \u2013 right?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Findings include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">A significant post-legalization increase in past-30-day co-use in 2016 in counties with the highest retail outlet&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/density\/\">density<\/a>.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Significant post-legalization increases in perceived risk and parent approval of alcohol and marijuana use.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Legalization and greater retail availability of both marijuana and alcohol were positively associated with co-use among teens, and beliefs favorable to alcohol and marijuana use.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Says le<\/span>ad author, Dr. Grisel Garc\u00eda-Ram\u00edrez: &#8220;Our results suggest that adolescents living in communities with greater retail availability of recreational marijuana and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/alcohol\/\">alcohol<\/a>&nbsp;may have greater indirect access to these substances through diversion, as it is illegal for them to purchase and use them.
