Most research in this arena is still very new and limited, as this social experiment is still in early stages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Australian <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/66DjNwK8pAU\">Professor John Toumbourou and his Deakin University<\/a><\/strong> team in the course of their decade long longitudinal studies of comparison with US and Australian youth investigated the impact of such permission models and found that, <em>\u201cCannabis legalization is associated with increased risk factors \u2013 availability, perceived prevalence, acceptability \u2013 leading to increased frequency of use (along with increased potency), increased adult use and similar long term harms.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/66DjNwK8pAU\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-2862\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dalgarnoinstitute.org.au\/wp_site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/ToumbourouYOUTUBEILE.png\" alt=\"ToumbourouYOUTUBEILE\" width=\"662\" height=\"397\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dalgarnoinstitute.org.au\/wp_site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/ToumbourouYOUTUBEILE.png 1055w, https:\/\/www.dalgarnoinstitute.org.au\/wp_site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/ToumbourouYOUTUBEILE-300x180.png 300w, https:\/\/www.dalgarnoinstitute.org.au\/wp_site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/ToumbourouYOUTUBEILE-1024x614.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.dalgarnoinstitute.org.au\/wp_site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/ToumbourouYOUTUBEILE-768x461.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 662px) 100vw, 662px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Smart Approaches to Marijuana in their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dalgarnoinstitute.org.au\/wp_site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/2020-Impact-Report.pdf\"><strong><em>\u201cLessons Learned from State Marijuana Legalization\u201d<\/em><\/strong>,<\/a> saw not only increasing harms from increasing use, but that use amongst 8<sup>th<\/sup>, 10<sup>th<\/sup> and 12<sup>th<\/sup> Graders had increased approximately 40%<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Further to that a recently published research in the US only confirms these emerging and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/frTwOMw8lyo\">public health harming<\/a><\/strong> realities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><em>Effects of Recreational Marijuana Legalization on College Students: A Longitudinal Study of Attitudes, Intentions, and Use Behaviors. <\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Purpose: <\/strong>As legal recreational marijuana use expands rapidly across the U.S., there is growing concern that this will lead to higher rates of use among college-aged young adults. Given the limited research addressing this issue, a longitudinal study was conducted to evaluate the effects of legalizing recreational use on the attitudes, intentions, and marijuana use behaviors of college students in two different legalization contexts, Washington State and Wisconsin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Results: <\/strong>Ever use, attitude, and intention-to-use scores did not change significantly more in Washington after legalization than in Wisconsin.
