The fiscal harms done to the non-drinking community."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The study,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.15288\/jsad.2022.83.512\">published in the&nbsp;<\/a><em><a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.15288\/jsad.2022.83.512\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs<\/a><\/em>, breaks down this&nbsp;<strong>$20 billion<\/strong>&nbsp;into:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>$1.6 billion for the child protection system due to an adult carer\u2019s drinking;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>$560 million for alcohol related domestic violence<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>almost $3 billion in lost productivity due to people having to care for a drinker.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThis is the first study to also measure the cost to those impacted by others\u2019 drinking through alcohol-related traffic accidents, crime, violence and aggression, family hardship, caring for drinkers and their dependents, and healthcare and social services,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Overall, the amount expended on those impacted by drinkers and their drinking is equivalent to the same amount again for those who drink, bringing the total annual bill to about&nbsp;<strong>$40 billion.&nbsp;<\/strong>This forensic analysis, by La Trobe University researchers, reveals the cost of everything from alcohol-related violence, car accidents, child services, impacts on quality of life and damage to property.<\/p>\n<p>Complete article&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.latrobe.edu.au\/news\/articles\/2022\/release\/alcohol-bystanders-burden-revealed\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.latrobe.edu.au\/news\/articles\/2022\/release\/alcohol-bystanders-burden-revealed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.latrobe.edu.au\/news\/articles\/2022\/release\/alcohol-bystanders-burden-revealed<\/a><\/p>\n<p>(Dalgarno Institute comment: Our 160 plus years of challenging this outcome has seen such before \u2013 in fact our movement was really started as a result of these outcomes. Note to, it is the \u2018legal\u2019 drug that is causing these egregious harms. A protected and commercialized drug that has become completely engrained into the culture.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>What is of even greater concern, is that pro-drug activists want to give the same carnage inducing \u2018pass\u2019 to currently illicit substances such as cannabis, cocaine, mushrooms, and crystal meth.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We know that&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dalgarnoinstitute.org.au\/wp_site\/cannabisinducedpsychosis-prominent-growing-devastating\/\" target=\"_blank\">high THC cannabis alone causes psychosis<\/a>&nbsp;and all its accompanying chaos.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nobrainer.org.au\/index.php\/student-teacher\/get-a-clue-ice\/101-ice-corridors-mean-one-third-of-queensland-children-in-protection-have-parent-using-meth\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The \u2018Kincare\u2019 industry in South East Queensland is \u2018booming\u2019 because of \u2018Ice\u2019 impact on parents ability to not just care for their kids<\/a>, but shocking harms done to them. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The insanity of promoting \u2018permission\u2019 models for substance use cannot be overstated.
